Dr Samantha Black is a paediatric and perioperative anaesthetist in Kent. She is the patient information lead at the Royal College of Anaesthetists and has led on the projects 'Dennis has an Anaesthetic' and 'Preparing your Mind' as part of the colleges 'Fitter Better Sooner' toolkit. She is also part of the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (APAGBI) perioperative committee, and is part of the team currently writing the best practice guidance in preparation and management of children and young people with additional needs requiring surgery or procedures, and also wrote with a team from the APAGBI the first ever National paediatric preassessment best practice guidance. She has done similar work for the South Thames Paediatric Network (operational delivery network) whereby she is the paediatric regional anaesthetic lead. She is currently leading a Royal college collaboration ‘ready steady recover’ to create a paediatric prehabilitation toolkit that is equitable to the adults ‘fitter better sooner’- a huge passion of hers.
