Joan Simons

Joan Simons is Professor of Health Studies and Head of School for Health Wellbeing and Social Care at the Open University. Joan is a registered children’s nurse and has a long-standing interest in improving the management of children’s pain in hospital, which started from her experiences of working as a burns nurse on a children’s ward. Since then, Joan has undertaken a range of studies with practitioners, parents and children and young people, in an attempt to improve the management of children’s pain in hospital, with a focus on increasing the involvement of parents in their child’s pain care. Joan is delighted to have the opportunity to speak to you today.
